EIGHT tips to survive Christmas with your SANITY!

Christmas and the Summer holidays can be a tricky time for a whole variety of reasons. These tips might help:

  1. Put together a PLAN. But remember 'Plans are made to be changed' So, make sure you have all the important stuff done, and then go with the flow a little. Get your family involved where you can.

  2. When you feel yourself getting TRIGGERED. PAUSE before acting or speaking. Try these: take 5 big deep breaths OR count to 10 slowly OR ask yourself a question (eg. I wonder what's going on for them?)

  3. Practice SELF-CARE Make sure to take time out to recharge, drink plenty of water, get enough sleep, keep doing some exercise, do what you want sometimes.

  4. Set REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS. What does a successful Christmas Day look like for you? It doesn't have to be picture perfect! What are the things you will remember?

  5. If you run your own business, make sure to TAKE A BREAK. Block out some holiday time and take a few days completely off. Guilt free - everyone else has time- off, you should too.

  6. If OVERWHELM starts. Try these:
Write everything down that's in your head, breaking big tasks into smaller chunks. Ask yourself four questions: Who can help me? What can I say NO to? What really matters? What is the very next step?

  7. If LONELINESS is likely to hit, then: Plan what you will do on Christmas day; Volunteer or attend a community event; Arrange to catch up with friends.

  8. The ENERGY YOU GIVE OUT is the energy you get back. If you want a calm and happy festive season then start with yourself - focus on the energy you are giving out.

Which ones will work for you? We’re all different so just pick ONE or TWO that feel right for you and give them a go. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
