How to keep your TEAM meetings FRESH, interesting & highly effective!

Eight easy ways to keep TEAM meetings fresh, interesting & effective

If you already hold regular team meetings then you’re WAY ahead of many leaders! But there’s a good chance they start to feel a little dull & monotonous after a while.

To make it easier to keep your team meetings interesting I have put together some ideas to reinvigorate your team meetings AND make sure you are covering all the things you need to.

  1. Use ALTERNATE THEMES each week – create a rotation of themes.  For example: week 1 strategy and forward planning, week 2 project tracking & KPI’s, week 3 personal development, week 4 process improvement.

  2. SHARE THE LOAD– share the organisation and running of your team meetings with your team. This is a great opportunity for your team to learn and practice running team meetings.  Remember, things may not be done exactly the way you normally do, but that’s part of the perfection, this an opportunity for you to let go of control and allow your team to do it their way (you never know you might just find a better way of doing things!!).

  3. Incorporate GUEST SPEAKERS for some meetings. This can be particularly useful for Personal development, Strategy sharing or Process improvement. Invite your key stakeholders/customers along some times – take the opportunity to learn from their perspective – feedback is so powerful.

  4. Remember ‘a CHANGE is as good as a holiday’.  Change things up:

Try a different format. eg. go for a coffee, go for a walk, breakfast meetings, working lunch, stand-up meeting, different venue, etc

Use short videos or other alternative ways to share new ideas or information.

  5. Incorporate INNOVATION & CREATIVITY into your meetings, set aside a chunk of time to challenge the status quo and brainstorm ideas.

  6. As the leader LISTEN more than you talk.  Make sure the meeting isn’t just about downloading information, or delegating work.  Create a meeting structure that encourages engagement and contributions by all (even the quietest team member).

  7. Don’t forget to CELEBRATE SUCCESSoften.  Not just the big wins, remember to celebrate some of the smaller milestones.  Include individual success’s, team achievements, personal celebrations (eg. Birthdays), key milestones, etc.

  8. Regular PROCESS/TEAM IMPROVEMENTsessions are a great way to encourage ongoing improvement.  Make this a regular conversation. Eg. What did we do well this past week? What can we do better as a team?

Hopefully these ideas will make your life easier and your team meetings that little bit more interesting.
